The Iron Rogue

Ok so ya wanna use a bow huh? Thats what inticed me to the rogue character, not the thigh-high boots ;-). Here's my preferences for Solo Ironman Rogue play:

Unless you are doing a SIM the best weapon for the rogue is not always the bow. The most important reason is that once it wears out; your chances of survival go way down.
Check the warrior's page for best selection of weapon. A nice sword/club and buckler or preferrably small shield can get ya far early on. Depending on what is dropped, similar to warrior tactic, a staff with high damage ability can prove useful in dispelling skels and undead. However, avoid those nasty rats or bats as they strike very quick and are not as affected by the staff.
The Rogue is also the second fastest spell caster as well as a larger mana bowl than warrior. Keep an eye on an upcoming character level up so that your mana bowl may used up by using the appropriate spell available.
The most valuable spell for rogue is the heal spell. With some practice and little luck finding a healing book the rogue should be able to make it thru most all the church levels with little or need at all for healing potions. Be watchful over the amount of points needed for next character level up so you can heal yourself at the appropriae times.
In team play however, the heal other spell is just as if not more important for keeping your team healthy.

Leveling your rogue: I think after attaining your 17 magic level and concentrating on dexterity that strength should be raised to at least lev 26 by char lev 6 or 7, this will enable you to use a MorningStar or Small Shield should one appear.
Magic level by the time you get to char lev 8 should be close to lev 27 as i like to do for warrior, in hopes of a firewall book. However, drops will determine when and if this will be appropriate and armor as well will determine whether you may stand with your foes as you descend or maybe resort to the ol' Shoot and Run technique that will keep ya healthy thru the majority of your Quest.
For example: a game that is giving none other than short bows will probably have some good maces, shields or staves. The good bows maybe won't surface till catacombs.
Also a good thing to take note of as you go is the condition of your armor. Sometimes its better to use lesser ArmorClass for a time so as to conserve the better armor for later.
